Welcome to August!
The shift was heralded early on Sunday when the humidity dropped and the air cooled. It was like impending August was reminding us of its place on our calendar being caught in the middle of Summer and Fall. Much of the morning was spent in reverie, non-doing, and appreciation of a hot cup of coffee while the afternoon reared its conscious head with a call to snap out of it and get ‘going’.
You know what?
I couldn’t.
It was a difficult chunk of time flailing amidst head and heart. During this spinning, a friend texted with an invite out onto the water. Rather than heed the list, I balked and made my way to the water pushing it aside until I could no more. In stopping, I noticed myself adrift. The sky was blue with the most beautiful architecture of clouds. The air was clean and dry. Kingfishers were flitting from tree to tree. The children were playing, and with nothing to do or fix, I was still moving…with the waves.
Practice reminds us that as important as it is to ‘do’, it is equally valuable to yield and ‘be done unto’. We can often get in our own way with willing the work to be done without recognizing that sometimes we can more readily see and feel our ‘work’ in being willing to be held and witness life act on its own timeline.
As the Summer progresses and schedules fill to take advantage of these ripe days, please remember to take time for yourself. Our mats and practices are a wonderful key to unlock and provide us a space where our lens focuses on the spaces between the breaths and poses with equal curiosity to those of its more seen guideposts.
We invite you to your practices as a way to take a break from what is expected from you to expose what is waiting to expand within you. It’s not only a breath or a snapshot, it is a new way of being that is yours to care for and cultivate.
We look forward to seeing you let yourself ‘be’ you.
With Love,
Your Friends at TYC
